Dear Colleague The past decade has seen a shift of focus in the field of HIV treatment. With an increasing range of potent, convenient new agents and co-formulations, long-term treatment of HIV infection is now the standard in developed countries. As a result, tolerability and side-effect management have become critical to ensuring ongoing treatment success. A wide range of adverse reactions and metabolic complications associated with antiretroviral therapy have now been described. In recent years we have made remarkable progress in our understanding of the pathogenesis and treatment of these complications and throughout this period, the International Workshop on Adverse Drug Reactions and Lipodystrophy in HIV has contributed substantially to these advances. This workshop has now become established as an ideal setting for expert clinicians, researchers, healthcare workers and community representatives to share and discuss new scientific data on this important subject. We are proud to invite you to join us for our 10th annual gathering. The 10th International Workshop on Adverse Drug Reactions and Lipodystrophy in HIV will take place on Thursday 6th November to Saturday 8th November 2008, in London, UK. It will be held in the heart of London, at the Millennium Gloucester Hotel & Conference Centre, with easy access to a variety of the city’s attractions. For 2008, the Workshop will bring to the forum novel discussions about aging, mitochondrial dysfunction, hypertension and bone metabolism. Individuals with HIV infection are now living much longer and age-related issues are of increasing concern. Treatment-related mitochondrial dysfunction may contribute to the aging process as well as abnormalities in glucose metabolism. Hypertension is also emerging as an important clinical issue for our patients. These, and other exciting topics, will also be highlighted in the popular poster sessions. We thank you for supporting our previous workshops and look forward to seeing you in London to contribute to the success of our 10th Workshop.
